Garden share season has started

June 19, 2015

This week we had our first garden share distribution. It was so nice to meet the new families that are participating for the first time. Our season will run for 16 weeks this year wrapping up October 10th. The season has been a challenge as we had freezing temps late in to May and then one week  of nice weather before the rains started on May 30th and have continued all through June. The soils are saturated and area farmers never were able to get all their crops planted. Now it is getting late in the year for planting, making it a finacially draining year for area farmers. Luckily at our farm we were able to get all but some of our vine crops planted before the rain started. Our plants look healthy and are growing well now that summer heat and sunshine is here. I am so excited for the first heirloom tomato to ripen, but I’ll have to be patient, it will be several weeks yet before that happens. But when it does you’ll all get a share of the harvest. That’s the great thing about Community Gardens :)
